Pantone's 2012 Colour of the Year..... Tangerine Tango!

Posted by The blue Songstress On 10:29 PM 0 comments
It's a funny thing about color. It can lift a mood as much as depress it. Color is so much a part of brand marketing that many consumers may not even think about the impact one color or another has on a purchase decision.

Pantone knows just how important color is in marketing; in fact, the company has built a business around it. Each year, Pantone, which describes itself as "the global authority on color," selects a color of the year — before the year begins  — to rally the world's designers around it. In fact, the color is selected based on a poll conducted with designers. Last year's color was the "vibrant, energetic" shade of pink called Honeysuckle; some referred to it as "Mad Men pink."

2011 colour of the Year - HoneySuckle
For 2012, Pantone's pick moves the dail a few clicks hotter, from a warm pink to pure tangerine dream, with the selection of "Tangerine Tango," (my personal Favourite if i might say) a citrus-red hue that leans orange than red — although it's certainly red hot, popping up all over the Spring 2012 runway collections during the September Fashion Week shows.

According to Pantone, the choice of Honeysuckle as 2011's color of the year "encouraged us to face everyday troubles with verge and vigor," while Tangerine Tango "continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward."

Clearly, there is a lot of psychology in color choice, and happy colors seem to be de rigueur these days. The past several years have seen the emergence of orange as a popular color with designers and consumers. Pantone says that designers Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lepore, and Adrienne Vittadini, among others, are incorporating Tangerine Tango into their spring 2012 collections and even extending the color into their fall color palette.

You would have also seen many hollywood celebrities already embracing this vibrant colour in many fashion shows and red carpet events.

Gwenneth Paltrow, Emma Stone, Eva Longoria and Beyonce in tangerine and ready to Tango
The color of the year selection process involves an assessment of global color influences. For more than a decade, Pantone's Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decision in multiple industries, including fashion, home and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design.

What does Christmas mean to you?

Posted by The blue Songstress On 8:49 AM 0 comments
Firstly, let me wish you all a very merry Christmas!

guinness timemerry guinness christmas

I was just thinking about the holiday season and was wondering what does Christmas mean to you?

For me, Christmas is a time for giving and receiving, a time to commune and share great times together with my loved one and last but certainly not the least, EAT EAT and EAT great Yuletide delights which your mum only makes during this wonderful season.

I have heard many people call this the “silly season”.  I suppose it is, in part, due to the incredible lengths some people go to in order to buy gifts for friends and loved ones, and in part due to all the partying and extravagance of the occasion.

As a practicing Christian, I find it quite ironic that many countries no longer treat this holiday season as a religious holiday.  It seems in our eagerness for political correctness so as to not offend other religions, we are greeting each other with “Happy Holidays” instead of “Happy Christmas”.  So, we’re taking “Christ” out of “Christmas”?

As a festive season, whatever religion you belong to, Christmas season should be a time for giving and celebration.  The first record I ever bought as a kid was the Chipmunks’ Christmas album.  It was a lovely Christmas story of how Alvin discovered the spirit of Christmas and experienced the true joy of giving when he gave away his prized golden harmonica to a sick little boy, but not before he tried to con money out of neighbours and friends.

Religious celebrations aside, a holiday, regardless of whether it’s a religious occasion or otherwise,  should be a happy time.  It is certainly nice to be receiving presents but there is a special “something” about the act of giving – when you see the excitement on your loved ones and friends face as he/she opens a gift (and probably loves the box it came in than the actual gift itself).

If you are traveling far and wide to be with family this Christmas, be safe and be happy, and when you think your parents/uncle/aunt/cousin/in-laws/other are driving you crazy, take a deep breath and be thankful that they are there to drive you crazy, because some day, they won’t be there anymore, and you may find yourself missing them.  And remember this, they drive you crazy because you care about them.  That is always my mantra and it works! :)

So wherever you are celebrating this Christmas, I wish you a very happy season.
Be content.  Be jolly.  Be peaceful. Eat. Drink. Be merry!

P/s: If you feel like a real authentic Christmas experience with your loved ones, Guinness is hosting some awesome Christmas parties across the klang valley. GUINNESS has been used to intesify flavours, add depth, enhance texture and when it comes down to it, just makes good food tastes great.

This year, especially for Christmas - a month filled with delicious festive food that all Malaysians look forward to, GUINNESS teams up with MasterChef Adam Liaw, winner of MasterChef Australia Season 2 to specially craft 8 Bold new Guinness Infused Flavours!

Must Try's most definitely are:

Oysters with Guinness Cream

Guinness and oysters is a match made in heaven, and this dish is all about creaminess and the contrast of temperatures – the cold creaminess of the oyster matched with the warm creaminess of the Guinness cream. A little shot of tartness from the lemon juice ties it together and then it’s all followed with a swig of cold creamy Guinness.

Crispy Squid with Guinness and Chili Salt

The sweet, spicy and malty salt coating the squid has a rich and earthy umami flavour almost reminiscent of porcini or shiitake mushroom. Add a little sourness from a squeeze of fresh lime and enjoy!

Guinness Lamb Shank and Mushroom Pie with
Champ Fine

This dish goes back to Guinness’ Irish roots. The Guinness gives a smooth richness to the pie filling and works together with the earthy flavour and texture of the mushrooms. The pie is served with a smoother version of the classic Irish potato dish, champ.

For all us KL-ites, GUINNESS is also throwing us their famous Merry Guinness Christmas parties! There will be 5 parties in total in the klang valley. Verses - the awesome Christmas carolers will be present to fill the air with beautiful Christmas tunes, Fun and games where we can take home exclusive Guinness Merchandise (love those!) as well as eat and be merry with Adam's delectable delights and pints of MY favourite BREW - PERIOD.
